Handling Check Overflow
Handling overflow on checks is a historical challenge when printers or drivers are changed. This document explains how to use the overflow utility and configure it in New World.
Send Overflow to Other Tray
The customer sets up the check in New World ERP to print the check stub to a tray different from the overflow file. In the example below, the customer places the check stock in the upper tray, and the bottom tray contains white paper. When overflow is encountered, Echo pulls the paper from the lower tray to print the overflow, then return to the upper tray for the checks:
Custom Printer Trays
Increasingly, we are finding printers set up differently from what New World ERP expects. When a tray is on a “port” different from what .NET expects, the framework considers it to be a custom tray. We have the option of selecting Custom for the Paper Source field on the Page Master Options tab of the Printer Setup screen, but many custom trays can be set up for a printer, and we are not capturing the custom tray name. If the user selects Custom as a tray, we are going to allow the user to enter the name of the tray in a new field.
Enabling a “Custom” Tray
- Add new Custom Paper Source text box.
- Enable the new text box when Custom is selected in the Paper Source drop-down.
-
Modify Save/Update to save the new field.

Installing and Using the Printer Tray Diagnostic Utility
The best way to verify tray names on your printer remains the Printer Tray Diagnostic Utility. You may obtain this utility from Customer Support.
After installing, double-click the shortcut on the Desktop.
Select the printer where checks are being printed. In this example, only one tray is without a standard .Net tray name. “Main Tray” would need to be entered in the Printing Options displayed above.
